My Chemical Romance- "Welcome to the Black Parade"
Ok, so I don't have the entire album yet, but I had to write a review for this song.
My Chemical Romance has always come across as very immature and overly dramatic for me. Their previous work was not that great in my opinion except for the song "Ghost of You". However, I recently read the review of this album in Rolling Stone Magazine and they praised it with four stars and saying that it was one of the best albums in years. Naturally, I had to at least hear the single. I must say, i'm very impressed by this newly transformed My Chemical Romance. The song is kind of a mixture between classic My Chemical Romance, a Green Day-esque punk vibe (as well as a complete rip-off of American Idiot's style and performance), and the grand sound of Oasis. I absolutely love the transitions in "Black Parade." One second the sound is very befitting of the title of the song, with the trumpets and orchestral sounds. The next minute the band is plowing into the Green Day style punk that has become so popular. I would argue that this song is more catchy than most of the songs on American Idiot though. The chorus just begs for the listener to sing along and this listener certainly obliged. I found myself belting out the chorus as I walked around my school's campus because the lyrics were so addictive. I was pleasantly surprised to hear a wicked guitar solo in the song (which just furthers my excitement that rock has brought back the guitar solo). I don't think My Chemical Romance is necessarily the most musically talented band out there, but this song is most definitly a step in the right direction for them. It is far and above anything the band has released previously. I am not at all surprised to hear that this album is flying off the shelves. I plan on listening to the rest of the album as soon as possible. Once i do, i'll update this with the rest of the songs. But as of right now, The Black Parade is definitly a great song, despite the immaturity that is still somewhat apparent. Definitly worth listening to, go check it out!
